Ulysses Levi Armstrong, affectionately known as “Biya,” was born on September 1, 1956, in Savannah, Georgia. With a heart as vast as the sky, he brought joy and warmth to everyone he met, leaving an unforgettable mark on all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. Biya's journey on this earth ended on Sunday evening, February 9, 2025, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, yet his spirit will forever resonate in the lives he touched.
For many years, Biya dedicated himself to the compassionate work at Payton's Mortuary, where he found fulfillment in assisting the staff to serve families during their moments of need. His genuine spirit shined brightly through all that he did, and he cherished every interaction, especially with Mrs. Ruth Payton Alexis, his former caretaker, who played a significant role in his life.
Biya was truly a friend to all; he never met a stranger. This humble and loving man touched countless lives with his cheerful demeanor and warm heart. His personality was magnetic, and anyone fortunate enough to be in his presence felt the warmth and kindness he emanated. He truly found joy in simple pleasures - from attending church services to the thrill of cleaning fish. Perhaps one of the most cherished memories etched in his heart was a road trip to Rochester, NY, alongside Cedric Wynn, where he enjoyed a joyful fellowship with the Wynn family, eating, dancing, and celebrating life together.
Ulysses also found a second family at the Action Pac Senior Citizens Center in Statesboro, where he relished the camaraderie and adventures shared with his peers. The delight of taking trips with this group brought meaning to his daily life, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and friendship.
Ulysses is lovingly remembered by his surviving family: Cedric and Stephanie Wynn of Statesboro, GA, who selflessly provided great care, his siblings Gardens Sullivan, and James Thomas of Statesboro, GA. He will also be missed by his special friend, Vernon Littles of Statesboro, GA.
Though Biya has departed from this earthly realm, the love he shared and the light he brought into the world will continue to illuminate the hearts of those he loved and who loved him. His spirit lives on in the beautiful tapestry of memories he wove throughout his life.
