Mr. Sylvester Dean Rawls was born June 22, 1951, to the late Mr. Roscoe Rawls, Sr., and the late Leola Johnson Rawls in Bulloch County, Georgia. He made his transition from this life to eternal life on Wednesday evening, August 21, 2024, at the Orchard Health & Rehabilitation Center in Pulaski, GA.
As a young man, he was actively engaged in the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church community and maintained his involvement until his health declined. He completed his high school education within the Bryan County school system where he established a solid reputation for his exceptional academic abilities. Choosing not to pursue a college education, he followed his lifelong passion for farming and outdoor activities, eventually transitioning to a role at the Walmart Distribution Center in Statesboro.
Sylvester was preceded in death by his brother the late Elder Wille A. Rawls, the late Roscoe Rawls, Jr., a sister the late Pinkie L. Mikell, and a son the late Sylvester Rawls, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories two children: Sylve (Marquel) Jones and Shanika (Jeremy) Bell; five grandchildren: Jeremy Bell, Jr., Alex Kapaipi, Saniyah Bell, Isaiah Jones, and Nova Bell; three sisters: Doretha (James) Clifton, Exilee (Andrew Jr.), Rawls Pelt, and Emma L. (John) Robinson, three brothers: Gordon Rawls (the late Arlinda), Oliver Rawls, Sr. (the late Charlena), and Jerome (Brenda) Rawls, four sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and one Aunt Rachal (Oscar) Walden, one Uncle Emory (Judy) Rawls, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom he loved dearly.
Public viewing for Mr. Rawls will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, from 1 PM to 5 PM at the funeral home. The family will receive guests for the family visitation from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Funeral Services for Mr. Rawls will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Crossroads Community Church, 23923 US-80, Statesboro, GA 30461, with Rev. Earnest Harris, officiating, Zac Case, pastor.
Burial will follow at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Brooklet, GA.
Pallbearers will be nephews & cousins
