Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Sol "Sonny" Taylor, age 89 of Statesboro. Mr. Taylor passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, December 6, 2024, at his residence in Statesboro.
Mr. Sol "Sonny" Taylor, Jr. was born on July 4th, 1935, to the late Sol Taylor and May Belle Foreman Taylor. He received his early education in the public school system of Jenkins County.
At an early age, he joined Brantley Temple Church and later became a deacon there. He also was a member of Millen Masonic Lodge #214. Sonny worked at Robert Freeze Butcher Shop and Blackstone before he found one of the loves of his life. Sol worked many years in the pulp wood industry before switching to logging. He did this until his saw blades became dull and he couldn't sharpen them anymore. Sonny's main love was singing gospel. Over the years he sung with several different groups with The Christian Bells Gospel Singers being his main group. For decades he traveled around sharing his love for music and the Lord. My goodness, his voice could light up a church.
He is preceded in death by his wife the late Katie Taylor, a son the late Joe Patterson, and two sisters the late Fannie Bell O'Neil and the late Louvenia Thomas.
