Mr. John Reliford "Slim" Lee, age 71, of Statesboro passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 under the care of his Daughter, and the compassionate medical team at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility after a short illness.
Slim, as he was affectionally known was born to the late Reliford “Tobi” and Geneva Donaldson Lee on December 16, 1951. He was a Bulloch County native but had resided in the Metro Atlanta area for over 40 years. He retired as a Qaurry/Pit Dump Truck Operator. After his retirement, he moved back to Statesboro several years ago, where he was a familiar face driving for the Yellow Cab Company.
Educated in the Bulloch County School System, John attended Willow Hill School (Portal, Ga), William James High School and the newly integrated Statesboro High School graduating with the Class of 1970.
After Graduating high school, John, a U.S. Army Veteran enlisted in the United States Army honorably and proudly serving this Nation in Vietnam at Long Binh Post-HQ USAVR.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his youngest of six children, the late Mr. Reliford Lee III, two brothers, three sisters, including the Late Ms. Lue Helen (Lee) Wiggins, whom he adorned greatly and his brother and dear friend, the late Mr. Ivory Joe Smith, Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Ms. Tiffony S. Lee of Statesboro, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Isarael S. Lee of Jacksonville, FL; Jai D. (Diane Amenia) Lee of Macon, GA; Zakia D. (Deirdra Murphy) Lee and Sean D. (Mary Wilson) Lee, both of Statesboro, GA; a brother, Robert Lee of Portal, GA; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his very special lifelong friends Ms. Ina Wilkerson of Twin City, GA; Ms. Doris Mack of Atlanta GA; along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing for Mr. Lee will be Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 12 Noon until 6:00 PM. Family visitation will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Joanna M. Fields visitation room at the Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home.
