James Alfonso Lane was born on February 7, 1966, in Metter, GA, to Ms. Doris Ella Lane of Portal, GA, and the late Fred Coney of Garfield, GA. He peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, August 9, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center while in the care of Regency Southern Hospice, after a long illness.
James was known for his kind heart, humor, friendship, likable personality, and love for people. He was educated in the Bulloch County School System. He was employed with Roscoe Laircey Company as an electrician for over 30 years. He was married to his former wife, Wanda Brown, and to this union, two daughters were born, Shikenya and Savanna. He also contributed to the upbringing of his stepson, Tyler. James was a faithful member of the Newton Grove Baptist Church in Portal, GA. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was very proud father and grandfather and he adored his children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Fred Coney, and paternal grandmother Frankie Coney, father-in-law Edgar Brown and brother-in-law Jessie Gadson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Ms. Doris Ella Lane, of Portal, GA; his three children Shikenya (Taleik) Lane of Statesboro, GA; Savanna Lane of Portal, GA; and Tyler (Kimberly) Brown of Statesboro, GA; two brothers Alonzo (Joyce) Lane and Eddie (Sonya) Lane of Statesboro, GA; three sisters, Barbara Gadson of Portal, GA; Gwen (Andre) Waters of North Carolina; Betty (Calvin) Robinson of Atlanta, GA; six grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. James is also remembered by his former wife Wanda Lane. He is also remembered by Ms. Catrice Mack who brought love, joy, and companionship in his later years, along with her children Cameron, Da'Quan, and Patron.
A public viewing for Mr. Lane will be held Friday, August 16, 2024, from 1pm to 6pm. The family will receive guests for the family visitation from 6pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Mr. James Lane will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the Newton Grove Baptist Church, 4753 Pleasant Hill Rd Portal, Georgia.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
