Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Gilham "Gil" Hodges, Sr., age 72, of Statesboro. Mr. Hodges passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Facility in Statesboro after an extended illness.
Gillham Hodges, 72, of Statesboro, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 5, 1952, in Statesboro, Bulloch County, Georgia, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Annie Baldwin Hodges. Preceding him in death were his only sister, Mercile Jackson, two brothers, Thomas Jackson, Jr. and Benjamin “Big Boy” Jackson, and son Marty Wiggins.
At an early age, Gill joined Hodges Grove Baptist Church. He was fondly known as "Gill" or "Ham." In 1970, he graduated from William James High School. He also attended Swainsboro Tech and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Gill loved and mastered the intellectual game of chess and was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a huge fan of and always rooted for the San Francisco 49ers, and Los Angeles Lakers as well as the home team, the Georgia Southern Eagles. He enjoyed shooting pool and was fortunate to play all over the southeast region with his friends.
Gill is survived by his loving partner, Queen Herrington-Hodges. His smile will forever live on in his children Jamila (Ty) Lewis of Woodbridge, Virginia, Gillham Hodges, Jr. of Statesboro, Georgia; and Travis Wiggins of Augusta, Georgia; four stepchildren, Romal (Miranda) Bostic of Raeford, North Carolina; Hope (Marcus) Forte of Schertz, Texas; Kim (Lawrence) Flowers of Commerce, Georgia; Travis Bostic of Columbus, Georgia; and one Aunt, Vera Mae Baldwin of Statesboro, Georgia; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Gill's spirit will also live on through his grandchildren Jamil Lewis, Tia Lewis, Alia Lewis, D’miyah Tribble, Giavannah Hodges, La’mani Hodges, Juliana Bostic, Travon Bostic, Faith Forte, Noah Brown, Kadence Brown, Adayshia Bostic, Mella Dee Green, Sequoia Janae Frazier, and his great-grandchildren, Shakoria Bostic, Pamela Green, Adayshia Bostic, Emani George, Khalani George, Kai Orengo, and Josiah King.
We will forever cherish our special memories of our beloved Gill.
Public viewing for Mr. Hodges will be held Friday, July 26, 2024, from Noon to 5:00 PM with the family receiving guests for the family visitation from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Matthew H. Lovett & Son's Funeral Home.
A celebration of Gill’s life will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM, at Hodges Grove Baptist Church, 841 Miller Street Extension with Rev. Charles Weaver officiating, Rev. Dr. John Harmon, pastor.
The interment will be at Eastside Cemetery, Northside Drive, Statesboro.
There will be a repass at Hodges Grove Baptist Church following the committal services.
Pallbearers will be Pat Jackson, Dwayne Jackson, Willis Olive, Terry Jackson, Demario Jackson and Kenny Payne
Gill's kindness, wisdom, and love for his family and community will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral services for Mr. Hodges will be live-streamed via our website on the day of service.
