Garry Lloyd Gerald Matthews, Jr. "Lil Gee"

Matthew H. Lovett & Son’s Funeral Home announces the passing of Mr. Garry Lloyd Gerald Matthews, Jr. "Lil G", age 24, of Statesboro. Mr. Matthews passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton, GA.

Garry Matthews was born on September 12, 1999, in Statesboro, GA, to Tasha Guyton and Garry Matthews. He transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, August 30, 2024, in Claxton, Ga.

Garry was educated in the Chatham County School System and was a member of the graduating class of 2017. With a bright future ahead of him, he had ambitions of earning his CDL to become a truck driver, owning his own dump truck company, and living a life of success, adventure, and happiness. In his short-lived life, he had a personality that could brighten any room that he entered and was loved by all he encountered. Garry was best known for his kind heart, the love he had for his family, and his humor. He was a huge fan of the Boston Celtics Basketball Team.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, the late Tanzie and June Hendrix, and paternal grandmother, the late Gail Matthews. 

Garry is survived by his loving mother, Tasha (Derrick) Guyton of Savannah, GA; his father, Garry (Alexsius) Matthews, Sr. of Atlanta, GA; his great grandmother Lorraine O'Neal; grandfather's, Robert Matthews of Jersey City, NJ, and Kenneth Webb of Savannah, GA; his sisters, Le'Keriya Hendrix and Shagarrien Matthews of Statesboro, GA; brothers, Degamarri Matthews and Amazyn Matthews of Atlanta, GA; and his bonus brother Derrick Guyton of Savannah, GA. He also leaves to cherish his memories, his uncles, Fritzgerald Hendrix of Statesboro, GA; Lamar (ZaKaela) Matthews, of Atlanta, GA; and Courtney Matthews of Miami, FL; aunts, Shelia (Daniel) Davis, Tiara Ortiz, and Andrea (Maurice) Coley of Statesboro, GA; his nieces and nephews, Aubrey, Noah, Ariane, Desire, Mason, Maddison, DeNauri, Derrick Guyton Jr., and a host of other family members and friends. The memory of Garry "Gee" Matthews will forever be etched in our hearts, as we continue to celebrate his life.

Public viewing for Mr. Matthews will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The family will receive guests for the family visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

The funeral service for Mr. Garry Matthews, Jr., will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Original First African Baptist Church with Rev. Frankie Owens, eulogist; Rev. Christopher Culbreth, pastor.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery, Hwy 24, Statesboro, GA.

Pallbearers will be John Williams, Ervin Hendrix, Dequon Williams, Evan Hendrix, Kevin Smith, Jordan Jenkins
